MySQL/MariaDB: Turn subquery-updates into joins for better performance ( #1804 )

MariaDB/MySQL traditionally have performance issues for queries of
type UPDATE ... WHERE xxx IN (SELECT ...)
Instead, use JOINs which are much faster.
